10 booked for alleged gang-rape

The local police on Tuesday booked 10 people, including a college student, after a girl filed a complaint alleging she was gang-raped near Manimuktha river here.

Twenty-year-old Suganya (name changed) of Gunamangalam told police that she was with her relative Backiyaraj (21) on the banks of the river on Monday evening when the incident occurred. The gang attacked Backiyaraj and then gang-raped her, she claimed.

After the incident, Suganya went to Vriddhachalam bus stand and informed people there about it. They called the ‘108’ ambulance service, which took her to the Vriddhachalam Government Hospital. From there, she was shifted to the Cuddalore GH and then to the Mundiyampakkam medical college hospital for medical examination. Based on her complaint, the Vriddhachalam police filed an FIR and booked 10 people, including a college student. “We are waiting for the medical report,” the police said.
