1 held for harassing folk dancer

A man was arrested here on Thursday for allegedly harassing a folk dancer over the phone.

The Thanjavur East Police arrested S Saravanakumar alias Nantheeswaran (32) of Keelasurandai village near V K Puthur in Tirunelveli district, based on a complaint from a 19-year-old woman folk dance (Karagattam) artiste from East Gate area here.

The artiste said that a few months back, she visited the Keelasurandai area with her troupe for a performance. After getting her phone number from the organisers of the show, Nantheeswaran used to frequently call her and harass her over the phone, she alleged. Recently, he had visited the office of her troupe, verbally abused and threatened her. Based on her complaint, the police registered a case and arrested Nantheeswaran.
