A 55-year-old farmer was shot dead by an ex-serviceman at Su Vallavetti village in Tiruvannamalai on Saturday. Police launched a search for the absconding ex-Border Security Force personnel, Thirumugam. The deceased was identified as G Elangovan (55) of Su Vallavetti.

Police said that Thirumugam had allegedly misbehaved with Elangovan’s 18-year-old daughter on Friday. The girl informed her parents about the incident. An enraged, Elangovan went to Thirumugam’s house to question him for misbehaving with his daughter.

Thirumugam, in a fit of rage, took out his gun and opened fire at Elangovan and fled. Elangovan sustained bullet injuries on his chest. The shocked neighbours immediately alerted the 108 ambulance service and rushed him to the Tiruvannamalai Medical College Hospital. The doctors declared him dead on arrival. The police, following a complaint from the family members of Elangovan, registered a case against Thirumugam. Special teams were formed to nab him.
