Over 8.5 lakh tourists visited Ooty in April and May this year recording a jump of about six per cent compared to the same period last year.
According to tourism department sources, nearly two lakh tourists visited the Rose Show and Flower Show this year. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, normally commencing from June 1 every year, has been delayed by a few days enabling the Madras Race Club to finish its horse race on June 17 as per the Racing Fixtures 2012.This year, it was not too hot as it rained from mid-April to mid-May in the hill town. The rains stopped and the temperature went up since May 18, when the Flower Show began.
