Principal Secretary, Tourism and Cultural Development, VK Jayakody has asked Collector Ajay Yadav to extend the Yelagiri Summer festival for five days from next year to attract more tourists and explore the tourism prospect of the ‘poor man’s Ooty’.

The festival is being celebrated as a two-day affair for a long time now.

Jayakody said that the department has asked the district Collectors in the state to conduct the summer festivals for a longer period to promote tourism spots in their respective districts. “The Vellore Collector should take initiative to organise the summer festival of Yelagiri for five days in the future. I have also asked him to conduct the festival during the month of May to draw more tourists,” said Jayakody.

“I have also asked the Collector to identify new tourist spots and send a proposal to the tourism department to develop the spots,” Jayakody later added.

The tourism department along with the district administration would take initiative to organise the paragliding festival, which has been attracting a good number of adventure sports lovers from across the word.
