Pass percentage in the district up by 2 percent

The Vellore district’s pass percentage in the tenth standard examinations this year has improved by 2 per cent as compared to last year’s 80 per cent.

Chief Educational officer Pon Kumar said that rural government schools have done well as compared to their urban counterparts. Out of the 410 government and government-aided schools in the district, 13 government schools achieved 100 per cent pass result while another 61 registered a pass result of over 90 per cent. Government schools have improved their pass percentage by one per cent to 78 per cent this year.

Both Vellore and Tirupattur educational districts recorded a pass percentage of 82 per cent. Out of the 56,934 students, comprising of  28,780 boys and 28,154 girls, who had appeared for the tenth examinations this year, 46,821 students ((22,655 boys and 24,166 girls) had passed. Girls performed better with 85.8 per cent and the boys ended up with 78.7 per cent.

Interestingly, 99.6 per cent students have passed in Science followed by 89.7 per cent in Social Science, 88 per cent in Maths, 87.8 per cent in English and 86.5 per cent in Tamil. Eighteen students had secured 100 per cent in Maths, 214 in Science and 98 in Social science.

Out of the 36,952 students who appeared from government schools, 28,823 have passed. Government-aided schools recorded 86 pass percentage while schools run by the Adi Dravida Welfare department recorded 82 per cent, Municipal schools recorded 77 per cent, private unaided schools recorded 94 per cent and matric schools 98 per cent.

The IELC School for the Deaf and Dumb in Ambur, where 24 students appeared for the examination, has recorded 100 per cent pass result. Among the government schools, two girls - S Rupa and U Krithikadevi - of Government girls HSS, Thakkolam with a score of 486/500 emerged as  district toppers, followed by R Sangeetha ((481) and M Suseethira ((480) who stood  second and third respectively.

In the government-aided category, V Silvia of Mary Immaculate HSS, Thirupattur was the district topper with 489/500. R Suruthi of LFC Girls HSS, Ranipet with a score of 486 and V Monisha of NKM HSS, Sainthapuram with a score 485 stood second and third respectively.
