If alive, I’ll fight for DMK Chief’s post: MK

He celebrated his 89th birthday just two days back. But DMK chief M Karunanidhi still nurtures political ambitions.

In what could come as shocker to some in the party, Karunanidhi on Wednesday said he would contest for the party president’s post if he is alive when elections are held in an year.

When reporters asked him about party elections, he said there was a year’s time left for the elections. “If I am alive even after a year, I will contest,” he said.

On the soon-to-be-held Presidential elections, he said he had already communicated DMK’s position to Union Defence Minister A K Antony when he visited Chennai in April. “I have also told you about our stand to an extent,” he said.

Karunanidhi had said on May 4 that the DMK would have no objections in backing Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee if the Congress leader was chosen as UPA’s candidate.
