Stage set for Jaya’s visit

AIADMK cadre as well as the public are in a festive mood on the eve of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s visit to the constituency for the bypoll campaign here on June 9.

While the party cadre are jubilant, as their leader’s whirlwind would ensure a thumping win for the party, the people are glad since they expect several poll promises from the Chief Minister, which they assert would be implemented after AIADMK’s victory.

The AIADMK leader is expected to kick-start her campaign in the afternoon, covering nine points. Party functionaries said she would arrive at Pudukottai by a special helicopter at Puduppati near Karambakudi, where a helipad had been set up. The Chief Minister will start her campaign in a special van at Pudupatti and address the people at Mazhaiyur, Four Road Junction, Sammmatti Viduthi, Mathur and Ichadi, which are rural areas of the constituency.

In the town, she would begin her campaign at Brindavan Corner and proceed to Museum and Anna Statue. The AIADMK supremo would wind up her campaign at TVS Corner. Totally, out of the nine points, five would be in rural pockets and four in the town.

She would start her campaign around 1 pm. After the campaign she would leave by helicopter.

As per the schedule, the CM would travel 43 km. About 600 cops and three companies of special police have arrived from Palani, Avadi and Tiruchy. Besides, 250 home guards would be deployed for security duty during the CM’s visit. Besides, the district police have decided to draft additional force from neighbouring districts for bandobust duty.

The ministers and AIADMK functionaries are making arrangements round the clock for their leader’s campaign.

The bypoll was necessitated by the untimely death of Pudukottai MLA SP Muthukumaran of CPI. The DMDK has fielded N Zakir Hussain, while the DMK, MDMK, Congress, Left and PMK have stayed away from contesting the poll.
