Anti-Hindi stir toon row snowballs

DMK president M Karunanidhi, DK president K Veeramani and PMK founder S Ramadoss  have demanded that the cartoon with regard to the 1965  anti-Hindi agitation published in the NCERT textbook for 12th standard should be removed forthwith as it has  hurt the sentiments of the Tamils.

In  a statement here, the DMK chief recalled his association with the agitations both in the 1930s and in 1965 and said that the cartoon that appeared in the NCERT text has belittled the agitation.

The Centre should intervene in this matter and take steps to remove the cartoon from the textbook, he said.

Veeramani, in a statement here, said  all of Tamil Nadu erupted like a volcano against the imposition of Hindi.

The NCERT should give only facts in the textbooks and not try to impose views on the students.  The Centre should remove the cartoon immediately and the HRD portfolio should be taken back from the present Minister Kapil Sibal.

PMK founder S Ramadoss took exception to the publication of the cartoon which maligned the anti-Hindi agitation.

Meanwhile, MDMK has announced a demonstration near Memorial Hall on June 11 condemning the cartoon belittling the anti-Hindi agitation.
