Off-site emergency exercise at KKNPP

Officials of the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant Project along with the district administration carried out an off-site emergency exercise on Saturday, as per regulatory requirement and a biennial programme, said collector and director of Off-Site Emergency R Selvaraj.

Selvaraj in an official release said that on Saturday morning the shift in-charge engineer declared a plant emergency and subsequently the site director reached the spot and declared the start of the exercise. Alert messages were sent to all officials concerned, including the NPCIL, DAE, AERB, the Collector and other officials in the district.

Based on inputs from Environmental Survey Lab team, the Collector declared an ‘Off -Site Emergency’ and counter measures were carried out in three stages. Nakkanery village, situated about 7 km away, was selected as the affected area. The exercise was observed by representatives from AERB, NPCIL and HQ.
