Plea to begin river link project

A meeting of the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam (TNVS) chaired by S P Sampathkumar has urged the State Government to sanction funds and start the Thenpennai-Kallaru-Palar link project at the earliest.

Affiliated to the All India Kisan Sangh, TNVS’s state executive member, R Mullai, said the linking of the Thenpennai with Palar has been accepted in principle by both the Andhra Pradesh and the Tamil Nadu governments as well as the Centre.

“Even if the central government does not allocate funds for the project, the state should mobilise its own and begin the project this year,” said Mullai. “The meet has made a plea to the chief minister.”

The project plans to feed the excess water from the Krishnagiri Dam through the Kallar to the water-starved Palar.

The TNVS said the MGNREGS could be utilised for the project.

It has also resolved to launch an campaign on the link project from Kakangarai to Natarampalli.
