Cognizant opens R&D centre on VIT campus

IT major Cognizant Technology Solutions has opened a Research and Development (R&D) Centre for mobility applications development at the VIT University’s School of Information Technology and Engineering (SITE). The centre was inaugurated by Sowri Santhanakrishnan, Head of the Mobility practice, Cognizant, on Tuesday.

In his inaugural address, Sowri Santhanakrishnan explained the significance of mobility and the huge opportunities for developers and users. “Today’s businesses are being transformed by the emerging social, mobile, analytics and cloud technologies while newer devices such as smart phones and tablets are transforming the way we connect, collaborate and get things done on the go,” he said.

The services and solutions based on these emerging technologies have a huge growth potential.

 In today’s fast-paced world, capabilities in these areas are becoming crucial prerequisites for keeping up with changing customer behaviour.

 This centre is an important milestone in our mission to collaborate with educational institutions to work towards creating intellectual property and solutions in mobility,” the company official said.

VIT vice chancellor V Raju in his address, emphasised on the importance of such collaborations to help bridge the gap between industry and academia.

VIT vice president G V Sampath, lauded the efforts behind the establishment of the centre at the university, which had strengthened the support for such collaborative ventures.

R Saravanan, Director, SITE, welcomed the gathering.
