Bomb hoax at marriage hall in Pondy

A bomb threat to a marriage hall on Monday created a flutter ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, but was later proved to be a hoax. According to the police, a 103 emergency vehicle received an anonymous call saying a bomb had been planted at the Tamil Kalyanamandapam in Sokkanathanpet on Puducherry -Villupuram road. They in turn informed Tamil Nadu police control room who alerted their counterparts here.

Cops along with bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs and fire service personnel rushed to the marriage hall and conducted a search. However no explosives were found, said D’Nagar inspector Veeravallavan.

Police suspect it to be the handiwork of someone, who wanted to stop the marriage of a girl, that was to be solemnised in the morning. The hoax call was made from a one-rupee coin booth was traced to Pulavanur near Panruti, the native place of the bride, police  said.
