DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi on Thursday declined to answer if his party would pitch for two ministerial berths in the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre.

Asked if his party would seek two ministerial berths, he said that “he could not comment anything at present.” The five DMK ministers in the Union Cabinet are M K Alagiri,  S S Palanimanickam, S Jagathrakshakan, D Napoleon and S Gandhiselvan.

A Raja and Dayanidhi Maran had to resign from the Union Cabinet in 2010 and 2011 respectively following allegations of scam in the telecom sector. Since then, the DMK has not nominated anyone else for the two vacancies.
