Charred body identified

The City Police have identified the charred body of a woman found inside a gunny sack at a garbage dump in Bharathi Nagar on Thursday as that of Lakshmi (40), and arrested her husband, Balakrishnan, a parotta maker, on Friday for allegedly burning her alive after a quarrel. The couple resided at New Selva Nagar near Karumandapam. Balakrishnan confessed that he had dragged Lakshmi to the dump and burnt her alive.Lakshmi had been quarrelling with him for the past few days because he had sold all her jewellery. In inebriated state,  he allegedly assaulted Lakshmi and dragged her to Bharathi Nagar and burnt her alive after pouring kerosene on Wednesday.

On Thursday,  residents discovered the charred body.
