TIRUNELVELI: PMANE coordinator S P Udayakumar told Express that the indefinite fast would resume at Idintharkarai on Tuesday as announced earlier.

Informing that people from Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, and Thoothukudi districts would assemble at Idinthakarai and participate in the indefinite fast and shops would remain closed at Koodankulam and Idinthakari, he said that at the fast venue the outcome of Monday’s talks with government officials would be discussed with the people and then a decision on the future course of action would be taken.

Earlier in the day, representatives of PMANE, ledy by Tamilar Kalam general secretary and a struggle committee member M Arimavalam, held talks with Collector R Selvaraj and officials regarding their demands which included setting up of an independent and transparent national committee to study hydrology, geology, oceanography and seismology of theregion;conducting disaster management and evacuation exercises in 30 km radius of Koodankulam plant and withdrawal of all cases against protesters.

Terming the talks as positive, Arimavalan said a petition was also submitted to the Collector about their demands.

During the meeting, which lasted more than 3 hours, officials asked to the PMANE team to postpone the indefinite fast for two days.

Besides the Collector, the government side was represented by Tirunelveli Range DIG V Varadaraju, SP Vijayendra S Bidari and Cheranmahadevi Sub Collector Rohini Ramdas.
