MADURAI: CPM State Secretary G Ramakrishnan on Friday said that a decision on contesting the Pudukottai bypoll will be taken at the party’s executive meet to be held on May 6 in Chennai.

Recalling the proactive role of the EC in conducting free and fair election for the Assembly, Ramakrishnan told journalists here that the commission should make similar efforts in the bypoll too.  “By-election is a democratic process, it should be conducted in a free and fair manner; but it is wrong to demand that bypolls be banned,” said Ramakrishnan when a reporter asked his opinion on banning by-elections. When asked about the DMK’s plan to boycott the bypoll, he said, “It is the decision of the DMK.”
