‘Massive protests’ for reservation

MAHABALIPURAM: PMK founder S Ramadoss demanded reservation for Vanniyars and warned that the State would witness massive protests as was done by the party during the 80s, if the demand is not met.

Addressing the Chithirai Full Moon Vanniyar Youth Festival here on Saturday night, Ramadoss recalled that 21 Vanniyar youth lost their lives in the one week-long road roko launched by the party seeking reservation in 1987. He said that he was willing to enter the prison if the struggle for the reservation will have to go that far.

He called the entire community to opt to vote for his party considering that none from this community has become the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, many supporters who came for the meet were in an inebriated condition. Ramadoss urged his community to give him a chance to remove the ‘drunkard’ tag associated with it.

He also said the party will be able to win 10 Lok Sabha seats in the 2014 polls and progress towards becoming the ruling party in the 2016 Assembly polls.
