VELLORE: The Pernambut Consumer Protection Council has urged the Tamil Nadu Power Generation and Distribution Company Limited to speed up the process of providing meters for new domestic connections. T Basheeruddin, president of the council said the should procure them and supply them at the earliest, he said. Basheeruddin said tariff hike for domestic connections was against the business ethics of offering less price for bulk purchasers.
He said the company should have offered a concession for bulk consumers and the hike pattern in the tariff was exactly the opposite, aimed to fleece them. On one side the government is giving away free power-intensive appliances to people, and on the other hand it is clamping restrictions in the use of more power, which is unacceptable, he reasoned. He said the sub-divisional office and other offices functioning in various places in and around Pernambut town be shifted to a central location.
