CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday announced that the four courts functioning in heritage buildings in Chennai would be refurbished at a cost of Rs 22 crore. The CM told the State Assembly that the buildings of the George Town Court, the Saidapet Court, the Egmore Court and the Small Causes Court in the premises of the Madras High Court would be given a facelift without compromising their heritage value.

In the first phase, works for constructing an integrated court complex and residential quarters for judges would commence at Jaggampettai village near Tindivanam in an area spanning 8.15 acres and at a cost of Rs 17.31 crore.
