NAGERCOIL: The CPM will support the DMDK in the bypoll to the Pudukkottai Assembly constituency, said CPM Central Committee Member and party’s Rajya Sabha MP T K Rengarajan in Kanyakumari on Saturday.

Rengarajan, who was here to participate in the All India Conference of School Teacher’s Federation of India, told reporters that during the last Assembly election, the AIADMK allocated the Pudukkottai seat to its coalition ally CPI.

But now the AIADMK was contesting the by-election in the same constituency.  “Though the CPI is  not in the race, we have decided to support Vijayakanth’s DMDK,” announced Rengarajan and noted that the DMDK would get a tremendous victory in the bypoll.

Regarding the President election, the MP said that the CPM would announce its stand once the Presidential candidates are announced officially.
