VIRUDHUNAGAR: Six members of a family were grievously injured when the car in which they were travelling was hit by a lorry near Virudhunagar on Monday.

Narayanan (33) of Vepery in Chennai and his family members were going to their native place, in Thoothukudi district, in a car when a sand-laden lorry collided with their vehicle near Virudhunagar Vanniyaperumal Women’s College, on the four-lane NH.

Narayanan, his wife Udhaya Jothi (27), sons Santhan (9) and Prakash (7), his mother Rajalakshmi (75), mother-in-law Suvalakshmi (70) were grievously injured. They were admitted to the Virudhunagar GH and later shifted to the Government Rajaji Hospital.

Police rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations.Traffic was affected for more than 30 minutes.
