CHENNAI : DMK president M Karunanidhi on Monday categorically said that his party would support the candidate fielded by UPA for the Presidential elections.

Answering queries of mediapersons here, the DMK chief said “the DMK is a constituent partner of the UPA.  As such, we will extend our support to the candidate to be fielded by the UPA.”

On May 5, Karunanidhi said that DMK would not hesitate to extend its support if Pranab Mukherjee is fielded for the Presidential elections. Last month, Defence Minister A K Antony held discussions with the DMK chief on the Presidential elections. Meanwhile, CM J Jayalalithaa and Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik have already proposed former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma as a candidate.
