NAMAKKAL: In a tragic incident at Pothanur near Paramathi-Velur, a 42-year-old man allegedly committed suicide out of fear after mistaking his fainted wife dead on Tuesday night.
Police said that the victim J Sivanantham of Kamarajar Street in Pothanur had picked up a quarrel with his wife S Kumudha (28), on Tuesday night.
During the quarrel, he attacked Kumudha with a wooden log and she lost consciousness.
Sivanantham presumed that she was dead and hanged himself at the house, sources informed.
When Kumudha regained consciousness, she was shocked to see her husband hanging from the ceiling.
On information, the Velur police went to the spot and sent her to the Namakkal GH from where she was shifted to the Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital in Salem.
The police said that preliminary investigations revealed that the couple, who were married 15 years ago, used to quarrel often over petty issues.
