CHENNAI : The Election Commission on Friday transferred R Tamilchandran, Superintendent of Police, Pudukottai district. He will be replaced by R Sudhakar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Adyar.

The State government issued orders on the transfer on Friday evening. “There are no specific complaints against Tamilchandran. Since the Election Commission wants a more pro-active officer at present, he has been transferred,” sources said.

INL to Back DMDK

The Indian National League (INL) will back DMDK in the by-election to Pudukottai Assembly constituency. Nagore Raja, state president of  INL said on Friday that the decision was taken by the state executive council of the party to support Zakir Hussain, the DMDK candidate, at a time when DMK, Congress, Left parties and MDMK decided to boycott the by-election.

He claimed that the reservation for Muslims was not practised in filling up the top posts. This was one of the reasons he cited to support the opposition candidate.
