Home guards to assist patrol team

VELLORE: In the wake of frequent robberies and crimes in Gudiyattam Town in Vellore district, the district police department has decided to increase the police strength in the sub-division.

VELLORE: In the wake of frequent robberies and crimes in Gudiyattam Town in Vellore district, the district police department has decided to increase the police strength in the sub-division.

The department has also decided to engage home guards and Friends of Police (FoP) to assist police personnel in the fight against crime. Superintendent of Police A Kayalvizhi, during a press meet on Monday at the District Police Office, said, “We have transferred as many as 12 police personnel to Gudiyattam Town and Taluk stations from various stations in the district. We have also engaged 30 home guards and 25 volunteers of FoP and they will accompany police personnel during day and night beats to check crimes such as waylaying, house break-ins and burglaries.”

She added that the department has also increased the number of police beats from 26 to 48.
