VELLORE: A 38-year-old man was arrested for attacking a special sub-inspector of police (SSI), of Vellore South Police Station with a sickle when the SSI along with other policemen went to arrest him for causing public nuisance by stripping in the open on Sunday evening.

Srini (alias) Dhamodharan, a resident of Puliyanthope and a load auto driver, was frequently creating problems in the locality in an inebriated condition.

On Sunday evening, he stripped in public and tried to misbehave with passers-by in the area.

Thirugnanam, one of Srini’s neighbours, objected and asked him to leave the place. Angered over this, Srini attacked him with a sickle and injured his face and hands.

On information, three police personnel rushed to the spot and tried to arrest him. However, he resisted and also stabbed SSI Panneerselvam on his hand.

On seeing this, the public in the area helped the policemen overpower Srini and tied him up.  The police have registered a case against him under section 294 (b), 324, 307 and 506 (II) of IPC and arrested him.

He was admitted to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital (GVMCH) and is undergoing treatment for the injuries he sustained in the tussle with the public and police.  The injured SSI has also been treated at the hospital, added the police.
