CHENNAI: Relatives of a 28-year-old woman, who slipped into a coma days after delivering a baby, staged a protest in front of Kancheepuram government hospital on Tuesday, demanding reports of the treatment given to her. Police said after they later intervened, the hospital authorities assured to give a discharge summary.

Police said S Saritha (28) of Periya Karumbur village near Wallajahbad, Kanch-eepuram district was admitted to the Government Hospital at Kancheepuram where she delivered a child through Caesarean section the next day.

Saritha, wife of water can company employee Sridhar, went back home a few days later, after which she fell ill. She was admitted to the same hospital again from where she was referred to Government General Hospital, Chennai on May 24. After she was brought to Chennai GH, the woman slipped into a coma, police said.

On Tuesday morning, relatives of Saritha staged a protest in front of the GH at Kancheepuram demanding to know the treatment the woman was offered and wanted a report.

Police sources said the relatives left after the hospital authorities assured that they would give a discharge summary detailing the treatment offered to the woman.
