MADURAI: The Madurai Bench directed Tirunelveli Collector to consider a petition for considering an alternative location for an auditorium to be built in Thisayanvilai village.

Disposing of a writ petition filed by RPS Kartheesan, president, People Welfare Association, Thisayanvilai village, a Division bench comprising  Chief Justice M Y Eqbal and Justice G M Akbar Ali directed the Tirunelveli Collector that the tender floated for the auditorium at Keeraikaran Theru Narayana Swamy Temple should not be finalised till the petition given to him on May 5 was considered.

 The petitioner, in his plea, said `5 lakh was allocated by PHP Manoj Pandian, the Rajya Sabha member, under his local area development fund. He contended that the place selected for the auditorium, was not suitable since there is no emergency path way.

 Moreover, if more than 100 people congregated in the area, there was every likelihood of stampede, he said and added that the land where the proposed auditorium was going to be built belonged to the temple which was owned by private individuals.

The petitioner, in a petition given to the District Collector, wanted relocation of the proposed auditorium.  After hearing the petition, the bench  directed the Collector to consider the petition given to him on the issue.
