Cop held for hand in realtor's kidnap

Three persons, including a policeman and two plumbers, were arrested here on Monday for allegedly kidnapping a realtor in Kudal Pudhur on Sunday.

Police said, Kambarajan a realtor, was kidnapped on April 27 by a gang with the help of Venkatesan, a constable attached to the armed reserve police of Madurai city. The cop, who used to do patrol duty in Sellur police station limits, had reportedly gone to the victim’s house and asked Kambarajan to come with him for an investigation regarding a land grab case. 

Later he sent a group, posing like a police team in civil dress, to Kambarajan’s house on April 27, which kidnapped and detained him in a room at Rajapalayam. After this, Venkatesan and his group demanded a ransom of `5 lakh from Johnsi Rani to release her husband.

Johnsi Rani immediately informed the police and on their advice she gave a cheque to the accused. Kambarajan was released by the gang on April 28.

Meanwhile, the driver of the car used by the gang,  grew suspicious and informed his owner.  Following this two persons Kumar and Jaishankar were held in the city. Police are also on the look out for one Jeyakkumar, to whom Kambarajan owed `2 lakh.
