Vellore RTO to be divided for administration convenience

The Vellore Regional Transport Office (RTO) would be split into two with Vaniyambadi as the main office for the new RTO soon.

The Vellore Regional Transport Office (RTO) would be split into two with Vaniyambadi as the main office for the new RTO soon.

According to the Vellore Regional Transport Officer, JJ Prashannah, “The current RTO located at Sathuvachari in Vellore has three sub offices at Tirupathur, Vaniyambadi and Gudiyattam.  Six taluks, out of the total nine in Vellore district--Vellore, Katpadi, Ambur, Tirupathur, Vaniyambadi and Gudiyattam are controlled by the three offices. Another Regional Transport Office at Ranipet with one sub office at Arakkonam covered the rest of Arcot, Walajah and Arakkonam taluks.”

He said the branch offices now conducted vehicle checks, issued fitness certificates, licences and registered new vehicles, but the buses, in order to get the bus route permission and other vehicles which required permit had  to approach the Vellore main office.

In an initiative to reduce time, distance and travel by the vehicles, and for easy administration, the Vellore RTO had sent a proposal to the State Government to split the Vellore RTO into two with Vaniyambadi as the main office for the western part of the district. The new office is expected to cover Vaniyambadi and Tirupathur taluks.

Prashannah said there was also another proposal to start a new sub office at Ambur.

However, the main office to which the new Ambur sub office should report to was not yet decided, he added.

Steps would be taken to upgrade the existing sub office to main office once thegovernment allotted funds within a month.

The new RTO at Vaniyambadi would be opened for public use within two months,  Prashannah added.
