Lieutenant Governor Virendra Kataria on Saturday took his fight against goonda raj a notch higher by urging all political parties and groups concerned over the deteriorating law and order situation to support him instead of indulging in idle criticism. Opposing his movement would only lead to dilution of the fight against anti-social elements, he said.
Reacting sharply to an Express report suggesting that delay on his part had led to lapse of detention orders, issued under Prevention of Anti Social Activities Prevention Act, 2008, served on rowdies, the Lieutenant Governor attributed it delay in sending the file to him.
Though the Chief Secretary cleared the file on September 2, it reached the L-G’s office only on September 7 — the date of expiry of the orders. He claimed he got the files after he sought them and following public pressure. Maintaining that no goonda would be spared, Kataria said he had returned all the lapsed files directing the authorities concerned to revive the orders without any delay.
Requesting those who were opposing the movement against crime to direct their energies in removing the fear psychosis prevalent in the civil society, Kataria said that those intending to malign his image would only help him in his endeavour.
Saying that he held a PG degree in constitutional law, Kataria said that those who did not possess any knowledge of law would do well in abstaining from advising him. He added that he had raised the law and order situation with Chief Minister Rangasamy, when the latter had visited him at Raj Nivas, but he had ignored it.
