DMK issues notice to Alagiri supporters

In a move that could further alienate sulking DMK south zone organising secretary M K Alagiri, the party high command on Wednesday issued notices to 15 of his loyalists seeking an explanation on why they failed to attend his younger brother M K Stalin’s birthday event here. This is the second time the DMK leadership has pulled up Alagiri backers — the last time was for not attending a youth wing meeting presided over by Stalin.

DMK organisational secretary TKS Elangovan issued identical showcause notices to former Madurai Deputy Mayor P N Mannan, Madurai DMK presidium chairman Isakkimuthu, state executive committee members M Dharmalingam and Ghouse Batcha and 11 others. These functionaries were conspicuous by their absence at the birthday celebrations held under the leadership of deputy general secretary Durai Murugan at Goripalayam on March 30.

All of them had apparently ignored invitations to attend the function though their names were printed on posters put up by the DMK Madurai urban unit.

The Alagiri loyalists have a week to respond to the notice. They have informed Alagiri about it.
