Madurai police on Wednesday arrested AIADMK corporation zone chairman M Rajapandian near the secretariat in Chennai on charges of threatening people and seeking money to approve building plans.
The arrest comes a day after Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa dismissed four persons, including Rajapandian, from the party after criminal cases were booked against them.
A special team from Theppakkulam police station arrested Rajapandian in Chennai. Police said that they received information that he had gone to Chennai to submit a representation to the CM explaining the facts about the case. Moreover, he was also planning to go underground for sometime and seek an anticipatory bail.
