The connection between Christian Medical College and the US government is an excellent example of the close ties between India and the USA, said David Gainer, public affairs officer attached to the US Consulate, Chennai. He was inaugurating a `2.2 crore pathology equipment project at CMC on Monday.
Gainer said, “With nearly three million Americans of Indian origin in the US and more than 8 lakh Americans visiting India every year, the two countries are interconnected and together we are facing many challenges of the 21st century, including those in the health sector.”
According to Gainer, every department of the US government was working with its Indian counterpart in field of human endeavour - from counter-terrorism to energy, food security, business to health.
Elaborating on the health sector, Gainer said, the US National Institute of Health (NIH) and Centre for Disease Control (CDC) had robust partnerships with leading Indian institutions.
