Woman held as laced drink for hubby kills buddy

An unsuspecting man fell victim to a conspiracy hatched by a woman to allegedly bump off her husband after he drank alcohol from the bottle she had mixed poison in at Devipattinam on Saturday.

According to police, Nathan, a resident of Ilanthaikootam near Devipattinam, had organised a booze party on Saturday. Ramesh who attended the party died after consuming alcohol there. During investigations, it was found that poison was mixed in the alcohol that the deceased had consumed.

Further investigations revealed that the bottle was brought to the party by one Kannan. During inquiry, Kannan said that he had brought the bottle from his house, pointing the needle of suspicion towards his wife Vanitha.

Police said that Vanitha was having an illicit relationship with Kannan’s friend Munis Kumar. When Kannan came to know about the affair, he had warned both of them. However, Vanitha decided to kill Kannan to make way for Munis. She allegedly mixed poison in the alcohol bottle kept by Kannan at the house.

However, on the night of the party, Kannan took the poisoned alcohol to the party. As the supply of liquor there was ample, nobody drank from his bottle initially. However, when his friend Ramesh came in, he drank from Kannan’s bottle. Soon after drinking it, he showed symptoms of uneasiness and was rushed to a hospital, where he died.

A case was registered and Vanitha and Munis Kumar were arrested.
