Fraudsters mimicking me: Stalin’s kin

Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, wife of Udhayanidhi Stalin and daughter-in-law of DMK treasurer M K Stalin, on Tuesday submitted a petition to Police Commissioner S George, seeking action against impersonators allegedly faking her voice to dupe party functionaries and members of the public.

Kiruthiga had lodged a similar complaint in June 2012 that led to the arrest of two persons. She submitted the petition through her advocate, who claimed that his client was receiving complaints that an unidentified person had been making phone calls claiming to be Kiruthiga and seeking money. The advocate said people had received calls from three numbers — 9750945583, 7373412251 and 9943454553 — with the caller claiming to be Kiruthiga.

On April 8, K Thalapathy, DMK urban district secretary in Madurai, was contacted at 2.58 pm by the suspected impersonator who used a different phone number — 8015049748. Claiming to be Kiruthiga, the caller insisted that Thalapathy call back at 7373412251. A few minutes later, the same person called again from this number and sought money from Thalapathy. The impersonator then sent an SMS asking that `15,000 be deposited in a bank account. The same person called again and asked Thalapathy to give the money to a person, who would supposedly identify himself as Kiruthiga’s brother. Although Thalapathy declined to pay any money, the petition alleged that the impersonator had cheated several others.
