Police will send 10 kilograms of an unidentified substance that was found packed in four plastic bags near a private engineering college on the Alagapuri-Virudhunagar road on Wednesday for tests to confirm if they were explosive in nature.
The bags, which sported ‘Danger’ signs on them, were spotted by a group of villagers from Karuppamatti under a bridge near the engineering college. The villagers informed police as the discovery triggered panic in the area. Police questioned the supervisor of a cracker unit in the vicinity about the substance. However, the supervisor said this kind of material was not used for manufacturing crackers.
