A nine-year-old girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Karaiyur, a remote coastal hamlet near Rameswaram on Wednesday.

The police said, Mari (49), a fisherman of Kadarkarai Mariamman temple street in Karaiyur village near Rameswaram, was married to Thansura Banu and the couple had eight children, including three boys.

He used to frequently quarrel with his wife under the influence of alcohol.

Unable to bear the acts of Mari, his wife left his house and had gone to stay with her first daughter in Nalupanai village along with her children three days ago.

Not able to withstand the loneliness, Mari had went to Nalupanai and brought back a son and a daughter Mahathi (9) to his house on Tuesday. The girl Mahathi, escorted by her dad, had gone to answer a call of nature the same night.

As Mahathi did not return for several hours, panic gripped Mari. He searched for his daughter in several places but could not find the girl.Meanwhile, her body washed ashore at Karaiyur. On information, police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Rameswaram Government Hospital. However, no injury mark was found on any part of the girl’s body during the autopsy.

Rameswaram temple police have registered a case and are investigating.

In a separate incident, Erwadi police are on the look out for a person Nazar, who had allegedly abducted a two-year-old boy near Keelakarai on Tuesday.

Police said, Yasmin Sajima (20 ), wife of Ibrahim Moosha of Pallapatti near Dindigul, was suffering from a mental illness for the past few months. To seek the divine blessing and get rid of the illness she came to the Erwadi dargah two months ago. From then on she had staying at Erwadi and had been visiting the shrine every day.

Meanwhile, she developed friendship with one Nazar who stayed at Erwadi. She had also given her two-year-old son Mohamed Yasin to Nazar whenever she went out on any work. During one such occasion on April 19, when Yasmin was away on some work, Nazar fled the spot with boy. When Yasmin returned, she was shocked to find her son and Nazar missing. She searched for the man and her boy in various places but in vain.

Based on her complaint, Erwadi police registered a case and have launched a search for both Nazar and Yasin.
