String of suicides shocks Tirupur district

Four persons, including an elderly woman, committed suicide in various parts of the district on Saturday. Police said that Subbathal (60), a farmer of Pudusalai in K-Ayyampalayam village, has been insisting her 35-year-old daughter to get married for some years. Following this, an argument was going on for few days.

As her daughter was adamant, Subbathal became frustrated and on Friday she consumed poison. Family members admitted her to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. However she died at the hospital on Saturday night. The Palladam police have registered a case.

In another incident, Manikandan (29), of Pattu Kottaiyar Nagar in Tirupur, committed suicide by hanging at his house on Saturday. Manikandan was married to Uma Maheswari five years ago and the couple had two girl children. A few days ago, the couple had a quarrel and Uma Maheswari went to her parents’ home.

As his wife refused to come, he committed suicide by hanging at his house on Saturday. Tirupur police have registered a case and are investigating. Similarly, Nareshkumar (32) of Vadapoothantham committed suicide by having poison after a tiff with his wife.

Senthilkumar (24), a garment unit worker of Thiruvalluvar Nagar, developed a liking for his co-workers. When she refused to accept his love. He committed suicide by consuming poison. Police has registered a case.
