Erode Additional Sessions Judge Sarvamangala on Monday sentenced a casual labourer Suresh (23) of Anjur near Sivagiri to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping an eight-year old girl of the same village on July 3, 2011.
According to additional public prosecutor M Durai Sakthivel, Suresh, son of Selvam, lured the girl with toffees, tooAk her to a remote area and raped her.
Following a complaint from the victim’s father, Suresh was arrested.
When the case came up for hearing on Monday, the judge awarded 10 years RI and slapped a fine of Rs 2.000 on Suresh. In another section, the judge sentenced the convict to two years RI and slapped a fine of Rs 2000 on him. Both the sentences have to be served concurrently, the judge said.
