Medicare for jailed PMK leader Guru

The Madras High Court has directed the superintendent of Central Prison in Puzhal to take necessary steps to provide medical treatment to ‘Kaduvetti’ Guru, president of Vanniyar Sangam and PMK MLA, who is said to be suffering from a spinal chord problem.

Justice K K Sasidharan directed the jail officer to take Guru to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in the city at 11 am on August 3. The hospital dean should constitute a medical team to examine Guru and administer necessary treatment. The team should file a report on this on August 7, the judge said.

The judge was passing orders on a miscellaneous petition from advocate R Kaliyaperumal. Guru had been detained under the National Security Act by an order dated May 10 this year of the Kancheepuram District Collector and lodged in Puzhal prison.
