Locals gherao Mayor over water issue

Residents of Velapadi, belonging to ward 38 of the corporation, picketedmayor P Karthiyayini’s vehicle after she participated in the free laptop distribution function at V K Vinayagar Mudaliyar Girls Higher Secondary school, here on  Monday.

More than 50 persons belonging to Servai Street and Perumal Koil Street gathered outside the school and picketed the mayor’s vehicle when she attempted to board it.

The residents then complained that some of the houses in their area did not receive water, as they were located on elevated side. Some also complained about the usage of electric motors by some residents to steal water. They further demanded desilting of the drainage lines in their areas, as it overflowed because there were clogged with plastic waste.

Mayor P Karthiyayini, on receiving petitions, assured them of action.

Last week a team led by ap inspector Nizar and junior engineer zone-2 Selvakumar seized around as many as five electric motors that were illegally fixed in households in  Vinayagar Nagar of Saidapet here.

Following instructions from Corporation Commissioner P Janaki Raveendran, the team had conducted a door-to-door visit at houses in the area to check for the illegal motors being used in the locality.
