Problems of the common man would be given priority, declared M Ravikumar, who took charge as the Collector of Thoothukudi district on Thursday.

Speaking to media persons, Ravikumar said that he would deliver a fair and just administration that eschewed any pomp and show in its work. Emphasising that the common man’s problems would be given importance, the Collector warned that swift action would be initiated against those violating laws.

Promising to continue the initiatives started by his predecessors, he said that he had a fair knowledge about the district well as he had worked as the special officer at the Central Cooperative Bank at Thoothukudi in  2002.

Ravikumar replaces Ashish Kumar, who has been posted to the Department of Social Welfare, as the 23rd Collector of the district. He was promoted as an IAS officer in 2012 and had previously worked as Deputy Collector at Cuddalore and Tiruvallur. A native of Sriperumbudur, Ravikumar has completed Masters in Law and had practised as a lawyer at the Madras High Court for six years.
