Shenbakkam residents stage protest for water

Residents of ward 60 of Vellore Corporation held a road roko in front of the Shenbakkam zonal office demanding water  supply, on Friday morning.

Residents of Pillayar Koil Street gathered around 8 am and raised slogans demanding regular water supply in their area. They said the public bore well in their street had not been working and this had affected the water supply.

They also noted that the water was not supplied by tractor for the past 15 days. They squatted on the road opposite zone 4- Shenbakkam office and complained that their repeated complaints to the local body officials had not resulted in any action.

Police officials arrived at the protest spot and pacified the agitators. They also assured them of appropriate action to supply water in their area.

Councillor of ward 60 K Viji said that the wire in the public borewell pump had been  stolen by some miscreants. He said steps were being taken to restore the pump.

As an alternative option, water would be supplied by tractor to the street during the day, Viji added further.
