Bihar teenage girl rescued at Jolarpet

A 15-year-old girl who was found wandering in Jolarpet railway station was rescued by the Railway Police on Friday. She was later admitted to Ujjawala, a government-supported home for women at Tirupattur. According to the director of the home, Raja Panneerselvam, the girl identified herself as Kushbukumari hailing from Bihar.

She claimed that she was forced to marry one Ramprasad Das, a painter in the region, when she was 13-year-old. She and her husband were travelling by train recently, when Das had deserted her. She was not able to say where and why her husband had dropped her or provide details about her family and native place. Kushbukumari appeared to be depressed as she was not consistent in her replies. The girl is at present staying at the home.
