Miscreants desecrate statue of Ambedkar

Tension gripped  villages near Uthangarai on Sunday after some persons desecrated a statue of B R Ambedkar.

The culprits put a tyre on the statue of Ambedkar and set it afire in Keezhakappu village, police said.

On information, police rushed to the spot and removed the tyre from the statue. Following the incident, heavy security has been posted in the area.

The incident has taken place two days after a clash broke out between two groups, one belonging to VCK and the other owing allegiance to the Samajwadi party in Samalpatti.

Around 22 persons, belonging to both the parties, were arrested then in connection with pelting stones on three government buses following the clash between them.

Now some unidentified persons desecrating the statue of Ambedkar has triggered tension in Keezhakappu region.
