Two rowdies hacked by accomplice

Two members of a criminal gang were murdered by another members, after they had a verbal duel at Valavanur in Villupuram late on Saturday night.

Police sources said Karthikeyan (29) of Arumparthapuram and Peter (30) of Irumbai in Vanur had gone to their accomplice Deepak Raj’s house in Valavanur.

Police say the trio might have got into a verbal altercation over sharing of the bounty they got after robbing a jewellery shop in Panruti. Karthikeyan and Peter then left their accomplice, Deepak Raj’s on a motorcycle.

Deepak Raj waylaid them near the Valavanur Government Boys Higher Secondary School and hacked Karthikeyan, killing him on the spot.

Peter, who tried to escape, was chased and hacked to death near a culvert, police said. People who spotted the bodies informed the police, who rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to the Mundiyampakkam Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

Both the victims have criminal cases including murder charges registered against them.

Police traced blood stains to Deepak Raj’s house. The house was locked and police gained entry after breaking open the back door.

Blood stains were found inside the house also, leading police to suspect that the duo might have been attacked in the house itself.

A case was filed. A search has also been launched to trace Deepak Raj, a notorious criminal. Following the incident a senior Villupuram police officials visited the spot and conducted inquiries with the residents.
