'Submarine mishap won't hit ties with Russia'

Union Minister of State for PMO V Narayanasamy on Saturday ruled out any possibility of military ties between India and Russia being affected on account of the mishap of the Russian-made submarine ‘Sindhurakshak’.

He said the cause of the mishap, in which 18 Navy personnel were killed, needs to be established, which could be possible only after an inquiry. He said that India and Russia had launched a rocket mission from Sriharikotta jointly in which a few had failed. But the ties remain intact, he added.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would take an appropriate decision with regard to participation in the Commonwealth conference in Sri Lanka in November, he said in response to a question on the recent demand seeking non-participation of the Prime Minister in the Commonwealth conference in Sri Lanka in November.
