A man who was accused of raping and killing his sister was arrested in Coimbatore after he confessed to the crime.

The accused, Ravi (25) confessed to killing  his 20-year-old sister Priyanka (name changed), who worked as a seamstress.

In his confession, Ravi, who was worked as a driver, said, when his parents were away, he had attempted to sexually assault his sister. When she protested and threatened to tell her parents, Ravi slapped her, knocking her unconscious.

He is then alleged to have raped her. When she regained consciousness and tried to call for help, Ravi is believed to have strangulated her.  When Priyanka’s parents found her body at their home in Rathnapuri, they rushed her to a hospital, where she died.

Ravi also confessed that he had given a false statement to police earlier, stating that he had slapped his sister after he had found her talking to her boyfriend over the phone. Both Ravi and his sister lived with their parents in MGR Nagar, in Rathnapuri. It is believed that Ravi had attempted to sexually assault his sister on multiple occasions in the past.

Man abuses teen

A 21-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a Plus One student in Namakkal on Sunday.

According to police, T Kannan, of Puthur Branch Road in Velagoundanpatti near here, was arrested and remanded in judicial custody on Sunday on charges of raping the girl, who was studying at a government school in Velagoundanpatti.

Woman assaulted

A 33-year-old married woman who was accompanied by her relative was assaulted and raped near Thanjavur.

Police said that the woman was returning from Thanjavur to her village on Saturday night along with a relative on a motorcycle, when they were waylaid by two persons at Kodikkalur village.

The duo attacked the man and abducted her. According to her complaint, the duo sexually assaulted her and also robbed 3 sovereign gold chain from her. 

Thanjavur East police registered a case under various sections of the IPC and other statutes. A search for the miscreants was launched by police.
